Park Klamovka

The surrounding area of Klamovka has its history and many locals love this locality. In the time of Charles IV it was a place where he had vineyards planted. The park was named after the noble family of the Clam-Gallas, who owned this place in the middle of the 18th century and built a huge luxury Rococo mansion here. There was a large English style garden and a small zoo.

This luxury garden, or chateau park, was renowned for its beauty, and the very esteemed gardener Josef Blecha, who organized flower shows in Prague, took care of it.

The fate of the luxury villa

At the end of the 19th century, the residence was transformed into a restaurant and Klamovka became a renowned business where people from all over Prague went. In the 1930s, it was rebuilt into a Sokol house.

There are several interesting historical buildings in the luxury park, such as the small church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Neo-Gothic gazebo, the Temple of Night and Knowledge, also known as Nebíčko. There are also many interesting sculptures, such as the statue of General Edward Clam-Gallas.

Klánovice forest

Klánovice is not just any Prague districts. In 1878 Václav Klán Šestajovic acquired forest land which he resold as building plots for villas. At the time of the first Republic rich Pragu dwellers concentrated here, the cream of society who lived here in luxury villas all constructed in modern style. For a long time here also operated the Klánovice baths as a highly modern recreation complex with its spa colonnade, swimming pool, a hotel and a restaurant.

In addition to the spa there was also a golf course. The Golf Club Prague became the investor of forest links, established here during the Second World War. But after 1950 Klánovice´s golden era came to a halt and the complex fell into disuse. The Golf Club Prague was wound up, the golf course was forested.

Revival of the old glory

However at the present moment Klánovice again represent a district for the most discerning. Firstly, the luxury here is the cleanest air in Prague, which is priceless!

What makes Klánovice exceptional and a luxurious Prague district, is the wonderful Klánovice forest, also known as Vidrholec. It got its current form after the Thirty Years War, when it was built on the site of the villages burned by Swedish armies. Currently it is the largest forested area in Prague and you can find here the protected nature reserve of Klánovice - Čihadla. Still there are the noble villas, the neighbourhood certainly did not lose any of its atmosphere of the past golden times.

Heritage of illustrator Hedviga Vilgusová

Klánovice is a place where several well-known Czech personalities were born. One of them is for example successful Czech combined track and field events winner, Eliška Klučinová and the local patriots also include Hedviga Vilgusová, who was a painter, politician and illustrator of books for children. A small local square is named after her. In 2007 she succumbed to a disease and since 2012, every year in late May and beginning of June, a luxury sculpting symposium is held here at which artists create statues inspired by her illustrations.
