The surrounding area of Klamovka has its history and many locals love this locality. In the time of Charles IV it was a place where he had vineyards planted. The park was named after the noble family of the Clam-Gallas, who owned this place in the middle of the 18th century and built a huge luxury Rococo mansion here. There was a large English style garden and a small zoo.
This luxury garden, or chateau park, was renowned for its beauty, and the very esteemed gardener Josef Blecha, who organized flower shows in Prague, took care of it.
At the end of the 19th century, the residence was transformed into a restaurant and Klamovka became a renowned business where people from all over Prague went. In the 1930s, it was rebuilt into a Sokol house.
There are several interesting historical buildings in the luxury park, such as the small church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Neo-Gothic gazebo, the Temple of Night and Knowledge, also known as Nebíčko. There are also many interesting sculptures, such as the statue of General Edward Clam-Gallas.
The park is located near Plzeňská street, in the vicinity are apartment houses, and nice villas on the other side. Plzeňská street is not the most quiet in Prague, but you walk only a few meters away and its as if you were in another world. On the other hand, you are near Anděl in Smíchov, which is buzzing with city life. Cinemas, restaurants, shops and luxury connections to the historical center of Prague are all within easy reach.
