The American president is so far praising the new tariffs

The United States earns two billion dollars on tariffs, which is about 46 billion crowns per day, stated the US president Donald Trump without any further details. The proposed tougher German migration and asylum policy has its first result - the planned suspension of accepting additional refugees.

New tariffs bring two billion dollars a day to the United States, according to Trump

Donald Trump admitted that the announcement of tariffs was a bit explosive, but he insists that they are necessary for the United States. According to him, the United States earns two billion dollars a day from tariffs, which is about 46 billion crowns in conversion. Since taking office in January of this year, he has imposed a wide range of import duties from virtually all countries in the world. For example, on Wednesday, the so-called reciprocal duties concerning the European Union and China come into effect. Their rates are 20 and 34 percent, respectively. The White House chief also signed several orders to increase coal mining in the United States, the portal Ceskenoviny.cz reported.

Germany halts UN refugee resettlement program

Germany has suspended the acceptance of refugees through a United Nations program. The decision was reportedly made by the country's Ministry of the Interior. The result of talks between center-right Christian Democrats (CDU) and center-left Social Democrats (SPD) is expected to be a tougher immigration and asylum policy. Immigration is a big issue in Germany. The country currently hosts about 2.5 million refugees, including more than a million refugees from Ukraine. However, a growing number of German voters want the country to accept fewer immigrants, Al Jazeera reported.

Trump presses China not to escalate trade war

US President Donald Trump stated that he is awaiting a call from Beijing to dampen the growing trade war. Otherwise, China faces further American tariffs, claims Al Jazeera. He added that "many other countries" want to start economic negotiations with Washington.

"China also wants to make a deal, but they don't know how to start. We're waiting for their call. It will happen!"

the US president wrote in a social media post.

However, a few hours later, a high-ranking Trump advisor questioned Beijing's willingness to negotiate. This suggests that a breakthrough in the coming days is unlikely.

Zoo Prague shows rare insects that were once believed to be extinct

The Prague Zoo has joined international efforts to ensure the survival of a rare insect that has been considered extinct for more than 80 years. The zoo is one of six institutions worldwide that have managed to create living conditions for the largest species of flightless insect, reported by the AP. It is a 15-centimetre long stick insect, which just over 110 years ago was commonly found on Lord Howe Island in the South Pacific. However, in 1918, the steamer SS Makambo ran aground on its reefs, from which rats escaped that marked the beginning of the end for this type of insect. The existence of stick insects was confirmed again at the beginning of the new millennium. Since this March, they have been on display at Prague Zoo in an exhibition called Ball's Pyramid.
