WonderWood has an interesting and wide collection of historical chairs dating back to the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Apart from rare originals of these, you will also find re-editions of famous designer furniture here. These reproductions of old designs, Plywood classics, represent luxury plywood chairs created by famous designers and architects.
Some of the big names which made their mark on the history of design are the Dane Hans Brattrud, the Frenchman Jean Prouvé, the American couple Charles and Ray Eames or Alvar Alto. You will also find new designer items here by Dutch designers such as Richard Hutten, Aldo Bakker, Jeroen Wand and many more.
The shop includes a 450-year-old wooden ceiling which is still in great condition and tourists sometimes come here only to have a look at this unique thing of beauty.
WonderWood ranks among the top ten most famous galleries in the whole of Holland. The founder Wiet Hekking worked in the fashion industry for various foreign fashion labels for 30 years. He was always on the move and searched the world for the latest innovative materials. He fell in love with plywood and studied the history of old furniture, collecting old and unique plywood chairs. It has now been 15 years since he first opened his combined shop and gallery. Over the course of these 15 years, various innovations have occurred, transforming the premises into a truly unique place.
