He was born in 1964 in London into a family with a whole number of prominent figures. John Lennon, Elton John or Eric Clapton belonged to family friends. He studied graphic design and illustration at Central Saint Martins. After the end of his studies he briefly worked as an illustrator and videomaker and then his steps started to head toward photography. And thankfully that is where he stayed!
Miles Aldrige is a treasure for many world fashion houses and luxury brands for whom he photographed countless advertising campaigns. These include for example Longchamp, Carolina Herrera, Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani YSL, M.A.C. Cosmetics or Mercedes-Benz.
His photographs appear in galleries throughout the world and also fill the front pages of many international magazines. There are several books devoted to his work; in 2013, the Somerset House also held an extensive luxury retrospective exhibition, entitled I Only Want You To Love Me.
Miles Aldridge came to photography practically by coincidence - he began to take photos of his model girlfriends. His career of a fashion photographer kicked off when he was contacted by British Vogue. In the mid-1990s he left with his sister for New York, where he began to work almost immediately.
His luxury photos are relatively easily recognisable. He uses vivid and very bold colours, creating disturbing images in which he combines glamour style, magic of a film story and Hollywood lights. When you look at the photos, you notice how much attention was paid to detail.
His works are included in permanent collections of the V & A Museum in London, the National Portrait Gallery in London and The International Centre of Photography in New York.
