The winter Christmas tree has been replaced with an Easter tree - a tall birch decorated with coloured Easter eggs and fringes. As is usual every year, you can look forward to traditional demonstrations of customs and crafts, which will be presented in stands decorated in the style of spring. Get rid of your winter blues and enjoy some fun at the market. You can see live animals, demonstrations of traditional crafts and be able to purchase sweets and hot drinks to warm you up.
There is also certainly no lack of culture at the market in the centre of Prague. You can witness folklore performances on the prepared podium where you will be able to see Czech and foreign dance and singing groups.
People most often visit the Easter market in order to purchase spring and Easter decorations, which there is certainly no lack of on Staroměstské náměstí. You can mainly purchase coloured eggs and decorated eggshells of various types and sizes here. The folk decorations or deluxe decorations made from natural materials, which you can buy here, will also create an Easter ambiance in your home. You will also be able to buy gingerbread and sweet marzipan. Enjoy yourselves!
Can you plait an Easter whip or decorate an Easter egg? Let yourself be inspired at the market live! And children will be amazed by the small zoo where they can stroke a cute donkey for instance.
What sort of market would it be if we couldn’t find something good to eat? You will certainly find something to eat on “Staromák”. You can expect Easter specialities as well as the classic refreshments.
You can enjoy some grilled smoked sausage, kebabs, or even a real hunk of meat. And the roasted farmer’s potatoes also look good!
The markets on Staroměstské náměstí will last until 8 April and you simply must go and see them. You may claim that the markets in other Czech towns are better and more traditional. But we were very pleasantly surprised at the wonderful relaxed atmosphere on Staroměstské náměstí, which you can also see in our video. It is not as busy as the Christmas market and people seemed to be smiling more with spring so near. You should smile too!
