A unique exhibition of the works and artefacts of Andy Warhol has been created on the Old Town Square in Prague at the Gallery of Art Prague. The exhibition was created to mark the 30th anniversary of his death and offers a unique insight into his life.
The Gallery of Art Prague offers visitors a unique year-round exhibition of three important artists of the 20th century. The Mucha, Dali, Warhol exhibition has been extended to include a luxurious exhibition of manuscripts, photographs and audio recordings of Andy Warhol. These are artefacts which were collected over the course of more than 20 years by Rudo Prekop and Michal Cihlář while tracking down the artist in Czechoslovakia and are items which have never been exhibited before.
Andrew Warhola was probably born in 1928 in Pittsburgh. His parents were Ruthenes from the small village of Miková in the northeast of Slovakia. He only ever spoke Ruthenian with his mother until her death. After moving to New York in 1949 after finishing his studies, he changed his name to Andy Warhol.
Andy Warhol devoted his time to illustrations, screen prints, photography and film-making. During the golden era of the Silver Factory studio in New York, he created unique works which won awards all over the world and which are used as unique decorations for many luxury interiors.
We can show how his fame grew using a simple example. You certainly know his luxury paintings with Campbell’s soup cans. One of the first prints was purchased from Warhol by the actor Dennis Hopper for USD 75. Eight years later, this print was sold for USD 60,000 and in 2006, it was auctioned for USD 11.8 million!
Don’t miss this luxury exhibition revealing some of the moments in the life of this extravagant and ingenious artist.
