It was January 20, 2021, and Democratic Representative Joe Biden took office as the President of the United States. At the time he was 78 years old and became the oldest president ever of the United States of America. Today at 82, he is leaving this position and is unlikely to ever return to it, given his current state, which by many aspects could be described as unrepresentative.

Among his most controversial gaffes, undoubtedly, is the moment when he introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as President Putin, his arch-enemy. Everything happened at the NATO summit, where discussions were primarily about the war conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Even though he realized his mistake immediately and apologized for his words, stating that he is very focused on defeating the Russian tyrant, it did not detract from the fact that he subsequently faced many calls for resignation from the presidential mandate.

Vice President Trump

Another significant slip of the tongue was not long in coming. It only took a few hours and he didn't have to go to another event. At the same summit, he named his vice president Kamala Harris as Vice President Trump. "Look, I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump if I thought she wasn't capable of being president. That's for starters," he was heard to say, and cheerfully rambled on in his speech without noticing.

"A bag of sand is to blame"

Falls to the ground and stumbles were also not uncommon during his presidential term. Undoubtedly the most famous one occurred during the ceremonial handing over of diplomas at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. The stumble and steep fall to the ground were fortunately without injury, but also without being able to get up on his own. He immediately had members of the secret service around him who helped him stand up, and Biden subsequently tried to overshadow it with his captivating hopping, as if nothing had happened. He pointed to a bag of sand that he had tripped over. Before that, he had several stumbles when entering and leaving the presidential aircraft Air Force One. It reached such a stage that measures had to be taken where a member of the state service had to always stand under the stairs and pay attention to prevent a worse incident.

As if illuminated by some higher power, that's how Biden's stumbles at various official events could be described. The most viral occurred at the G7 Summit in Italy, when during a military parade the US president set off in an unknown direction. When Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni noticed this, without hesitation she went for him and directed him in the right direction. It was another misstep that he made at this Summit. On arrival, he chose to salute in the direction of the Italian prime minister, as if he were being welcomed by a frontline military captain.

There are events that are simply not fun and there is no need to always pay attention. However, there are also events where a nap is more of a contempt than a welcome cultural component. For example, at the same G7 summit, Joe Biden decided to take a nap during an important discussion. His dozing off was so noticeable that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had to rush in and wake him up.

Many of us will remember Joe Biden as that old president who often did not make a good impression in public, even though he wanted to. But it is also important to remember his steps that took place behind the closed doors of the Oval Office. For example, the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, a key role in supporting Ukraine, strengthening the relationship of the USA with NATO, renewing the participation of the United States in the Paris Climate Agreement and much more. However, we have no choice but to say goodbye to Joe Biden and wait to see what the old-new Republican President Donald Trump will prepare for us this time.
