Europe will negotiate new support for Ukraine

A meeting dedicated to possibilities of ensuring peace and security in Ukraine, convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, will be held in Paris today. The Czech Republic will be represented by Prime Minister Petr Fiala. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in France already on Wednesday evening, when he met with Macron. According to the statement of the Czech government office, today's meeting will focus "mainly on immediate support for Ukraine, possibilities of a ceasefire and ensuring peace". The summit will follow up on previous meetings of leaders in Paris and London, reported Ceskenoviny.cz.

Trump announced new tariffs on automobiles

US President Donald Trump announced a 25-percent tariff on all cars shipped to the United States. The new tariffs will apply not only to foreign-made cars but also to car parts, including engines and gearboxes. According to the text of the declaration, which Trump signed, the tariffs are to come into effect on April 2. Reciprocal tariffs are intended to support production and job creation in the USA and at the same time generate additional budget revenues that would allow for tax reduction. Parts originating from Canada and Mexico, which are in accordance with the agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada, will be exempted from the duties, stated CNN.

Brazilian ex-president planned a coup, local court claims

The Brazilian Supreme Court unanimously accepted charges against former President Jair Bolsonaro for an alleged attempt to stay in office after losing the 2022 election. Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet accused Bolsonaro and 33 other persons of attempting a coup. It included a plan to poison his successor, current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and kill Supreme Court justices. The former President repeatedly denies guilt and claims he is being politically persecuted, the AP reported in that regard.

Sudanese army takes over Khartoum airport

The Sudanese army has taken back the Khartoum airport from the rapid support semi-military forces (RSF). The government soldiers reportedly in the city "encircled the strategic area Jebel Awliya", the last major RSF fortress in the area. According to experts, this represents a key moment in the two-year-long conflict. The army, which has been at war with the RSF since April 2023, launched an attack this week aiming to expel the semi-military forces from the centre of Khartoum after seizing the presidential palace on Friday, reported Al Jazeera.
