On the occasion of the signing of the coalition agreement between ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the well-known government coalition SPOLU launched its election campaign. As this event was known well in advance, the event would have gone unnoticed if it was not for the unusual vibrant colors. The prominent green came first. The color could be an allegory of a miracle, but not as great as the transition to environmental policy from ODS would be.
After four years in government and a series of proclamations announcing that the governing tri-coalition will try again in the autumn elections to the Chamber of Deputies in the same party composition, such a publicized act of signing an agreement on this plan is surprising, as one would have expected it to have already happened.
The "SPOLU" tri-coalition has become a given for everyone. For some members of this group, it's basically a necessity. According to polls, the smaller partners TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL would not get into the Chamber of Deputies independently, and in the case of the party founded by Miroslav Kalousek and Karel Schwarzenberg there is reason to doubt its viability. However, a colourful express has started on established tracks.

Where did the unexpected color allegory come from?
In the photos we see Petr Fiala with orange leaflets and in the background a slogan colored in glaring green. As much as the ČSSD is a dead party, orange was their color and the ODS was their biggest rhetorical opponent. Green has always been associated with a focus on environmental issues in politics. Although Fiala's wing in the ODS definitely does not follow the primitive politics of pure faith in the market forces of the founding father Václav Klaus, green politics is still as much a taboo word as social one.
Another explanation might be purely just a desire to shock with the hue of color. It should make sense at least according to the leading female politicians of ODS. In addition to the leaflet, the Vice-Chairman of ODS Eva Decroix shines in a red coat in the photographs (see cover photo). Defense Minister from the same party, Jana Černochová, then enjoys bold pink. Especially when she shows off among the greenish employees of the Army of the Czech Republic.
The color contrast with her plain colleagues of the opposite gender, such as Petr Fiala or Zbyněk Stanjura, could hardly be greater. However, the whole allegory of colors can be much more complicated. ODS, as the hegemon of the TOGETHER coalition, likes to present itself with conservative ideology, and this is also the case with KDU-ČSL. TOP 09 started like this too, but now it doesn't know what to do next. However, a conservative anchoring in the past might be the key to deciphering the puzzle of color allegory.
Miracle in the color of Jiří Kajínek
If Petr Fiala managed to gain parliamentary support again after the elections and sit in the prime minister's seat, he would repeat a situation that only happened once in the politics of independent Czech Republic. Yes, it is the second government of Václav Klaus. But the current prime minister has already achieved one record of the spiritual father of privatization across the Czech Republic. He stayed in the post of chairman of ODS for eleven years, just like the man who founded the party. Like Klaus, he can boast the title of university professor. Coincidence?
However, looking at the election preferences and considering the burden of the government's responsibility under the strain of record inflation, it seems impossible to repeat this hussar trick. And that's exactly what bright green color is for. After all, miracles do happen sometimes.
The most famous Czech murderer and prisoner Jiří Kajínek seemed forever condemned to prison after being captured on the run in Mírov. However, a miracle happened and President Miloš Zeman, who ostentatiously disdains the institution of presidential pardons, made one big exception. He granted a pardon to Jiří Kajínek, who is fond of wearing a bright green shirt. A coincidence?
Before the last elections, the existence of the TOGETHER coalition was not a given, let alone its victory in the elections. Only one man believed in it unwaveringly: Petr Fiala, and it was somewhat humorous.
"For so long, Petr Fiala claimed he would be the prime minister that even the voters of the ODS got bored,"
for example, proclaimed a headline on Aktuálně.cz from the spring of 2021.
Sharp green is also the color nicknamed "Brother Summer", as an expression of the self-confidence of Generation Z. The current Prime Minister might be a bit older, but he used to be young too. Going green won't make his politics younger, but miracles do happen from time to time, as reminded by a tank top of the same color worn by a convict enjoying the sweet taste of freedom. Just this time it would be for the second time in a row.
