The luxurious arena at the heart of Manila is the first running LED track in the world; its shape is reminiscent of the Nike LunarEpic shoes or the number eight. The track is 200 meters long and is lined with LED screens. Up to 30 runners can take part in a virtual race against themselves.
The luxurious stadium was created by BBH Singapore… but you might be wondering, how does it work? Well, you come to the stadium and run your first lap. They’ll take your time, and in the next round, you’ll be on the racing track twice. Your avatar will appear on the luxurious LED screens lined along the track.
A special sensor attached to your running shoes will measure your time and transfer the information to the avatar, who will then match your speed during your first lap. During the whole lap, he’ll be running next to you; the faster you run, the bigger he becomes.
Your own avatar motivates you to keep improving your results – your goal is to overtake him. If you succeed, then during the next lap the avatar will run at the speed with which you overtook him. Basically, this means you’re competing against none other than yourself – specifically your best time.
This is a unique luxurious project which combines state-of-the-art technology with one of the most popular sports in the world. Even though running in nature is perhaps more satisfying for many, this stadium will allow you to get the maximum out of you. As such, it’s ideal for professional runners and those who are serious about training and improving. However, it will be appreciated by anyone who likes to challenge himself or herself. So, next time you’re in the Philippines, don’t miss this luxurious 21st-century running experience.
