A trip to the moon with the Valentino Spring/Summer 2018 collection
The mysterious moon has been attracting mankind since time immemorial. It appears in the fantasy genre, supporting learning and exploration of truths from various perspectives: a mysterious place from which it is possible to see the beauty of the planet Earth from various angles.
In the epic poem Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Arioso from 1516, Orlando lost his love and his best friend had to set off on a journey to the moon in order to regain peace of mind for his friend. The moon thus becomes a place where we can find that which is lost in the heart. It represents a second chance for us.
This story provided inspiration for Pierpaola Piccioli, creative director at Valentino, for creation of the luxury Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
The influence of fantasy and the 80s
The influence of fantasy and the magic of the 80s combine in the new collection. The luxury designs offer fine layering and a combination of unusual materials. You will find here jackets from transparent plastics, dresses dotted with glittering sequins and leather jackets with interesting cut-outs, Bohemian dresses flowing all the way to the floor and jumpsuits in the colours of the Earth.
Some of the items will take you to a mythical fantasy world, with others you will find yourself on the deck of a rocket ship heading for the moon. Where will the collection take you?
