The Circus collection – an entertaining jungle

The Italian brand Tod’s recently unveiled a collection created in collaboration with stylist and Vogue fashion editor Japan Annou Dello Russo – and as the name suggests, the Christmas collection of fashion accessories is inspired by the circus. Boundaries? None! The luxurious Circus collection is truly an extravagant jungle.

Tod's lets their fantasy run wild and creates a plethora of inspired pieces

This is not the first time Anna Dello Russo has worked with a fashion house. For instance, in 2013 she designed a collection of accessories for the Swedish H&M brand. The fashion editor is known for her colorful aesthetical style and her influence is also clear in this luxurious Christmas collection. The otherwise elegant and reserved Tod’s let its fantasy run loose and created a plethora of unique pieces.

Fun with GOMMINO moccasins!

The inspiration of the collection is clear everywhere you look. Prominent colors, luxurious textures and fun-themed patterns in the form of circus artists, clowns and elephants decorate leather purses, tennis shoes and moccasins, phone cases and key pouches. Prominent decorations in the form of spangles, glitter, feather, tufts and metallic elements are also present. GOMMINO moccasins in particular caught our attention – made of soft leather, brilliant, entertaining, non-traditional and with a precise design.

An electrifying advertising campaign!

The face of the collection is Hungarian supermodel Barbara Palvin, who transformed from a traditional beauty to a fairly frightening clown. And we do need to admit that the advertising campaign is witty and ticks all the right boxes! We haven’t seen a more inviting and dynamic advertising campaign in a long time, and give a big thumbs up!

Tod's also thought about your iPhone

The cheapest piece in the collection is a case for the iPhone 7, for 425 dollars. However, if you want to buy the luxurious DOUBLE T SHOULDER BAG SMALL or the TOD'S DOUBLE T STRAP SMALL – these cost 3145 dollars. Original pieces are available in Tod’s fashion houses as well as on tods.com.

I always considered Tod’s to be a very conservative brand. I myself worked for this brand in Milan and this indeed confirmed my impression – beige purses, moccasins and so forth. But, as we see here, Tod’s also wants to have a modern look and so this time it certainly did not fall short in terms of extravagance!

Unfortunately, the circus style might be attractive for the “Berousek family” (note: a famous Czech circus) and that’s it. I don’t mean to say that Czechs are too stiff – but enough is enough. 66 thousand crowns for a clown-styles purse? Why? Where can I wear it? Possibly for Halloween, because clowns are scary for nearly everyone. So, my opinion: this collection is not suitable for anyone or anything. Basically, you’d do better to avoid Tod’s for now…

And where will the collection succeed? Definitely in Japan, because there they absolutely adore crazy fashion (“Lolita” and the like).
