The luxurious movie is worth a watch, among others due to its interesting history. Production started already in 2000, but was interrupted after a few days. The whole endeavor and the director’s 10 years of preparation for the movie led to the creation of a movie titled Lost in La Mancha (2002), screened at the 37th Karlovy Vary Film Festival.

Now, no less than 18 years later, the movie is finally done. It will be brought to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival by none other than the director himself – Terry Giliam – who did not give up on his dream and in the end succeeded in making the movie. It was premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. This won’t be Terry Giliam’s first visit to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival: he was there in 2006 with another luxurious movie, Tideland (2005).

What’s the new movie about?

Toby is an advertising director who finds a copy of a movie he made as a student. He travels to the small village where it was shot, and discovers that his work changed the fate of the locals. He meets a crazy shoemaker who thinks he is Don Quijote and sees Toby as his Sancho Panza. This leads to various adventures, and in the end he himself finds it difficult to distinguish reality from fantasy. In effect, he needs to face the tragic consequences of his movie.

The lead actors are: Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce, Olga Kurylenko, Stellan Skarsgård and Joana Ribeiro.
