Does deluxe Balenciaga offer an idea of what men’s fashion will look like in the future? Let us hope not. During creation of his autumn collection Demna Gvasalia freed his imagination and created a shocking FW 18/19 collection, which demolishes the boundaries of the fashion industry.
The deluxe part of the autumn collection contains simple and elegant models, which are no great innovations, but this is actually an advantage for items that are intended for practical use. They perform their function perfectly and it is great to see models in bright colours and excellent designs. Demna Gvasalia then turned his attention from elegant coats, suits, jackets and trousers, to sports and leisure style items.
This revolutionary collection has a truly wide scope and you can choose from elegant and also comfortable leisure items. The FW 18/19 collection consists of snowboard, leather and denim jackets and coats, sweatshirts, sweatpants, shirts and stylish accessories – get a bum bag, tennis shoes or a baseball cap for autumn.
When looking at the velvet turtle-necks in neon colours it is clear that Demna Gvasalia really cut his imagination loose. You would find it difficult to meet a man in a model like this off the runway. Another eccentric item is the neon pink coat, which is an interesting variation in the show, but which we consider useless in real life.
In conclusion we can only say that if Balenciaga offers an actual idea of future men’s fashion, then we hope that this only concerns the deluxe, elegant part of the show, which was excellent!
I have no idea what the trends in Georgia are, but if they are similar to the items designed by Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga, then my God! I’m sorry but if someone showed me this as a design sketch for a future collection, I’d chuck it out of the window!
Something tells me that this collection is either created for Kanye West or Fred Flintstone. How else could you explain the crazy layering of coats and jackets (the aforementioned Kanye West loves these jackets)? And, in coats like these, Fred would look like a homeless person who borrowed some rags from Ben Grimm (that stone giant) from the Fantastic Four – very oversize. You certainly don’t want to see your lover in rags like these!!!!
But if I were in a situation that forced me to choose something from this collection, then it would be the pale Japanese model. Yellow tennis shoes, a long blue coat, a printed sweatshirt and the weird plastic bag in his hand. OK, its probably fine for some quick shopping in Ldil somewhere on the peripheries of the city.....
