A total of 14 beautiful actresses posed for the photographer without any excessive make-up, complicated hairstyles or styling. Peter Lindbergh was given an absolutely free hand by the publisher of the Pirelli magazine to create the calendar exactly the way he wanted and he used this freedom in a truly brilliant manner.
The Pirelli 2017 calendar: luxury in the form of natural beauty
The photographer tried to express the deepest and most sensitive aspects of the actresses’ personalities via their expression, look and posture. The photographs in the Pirelli 2017 calendar represent a new way to celebrate feminine beauty. The actresses are intentionally not clothed in luxury gowns nor are they treated to a glamourous look. The photographer’s aim was to take photographs of famous actresses in such a way that they come across as ordinary women.
The gala evening for presentation of the calendar was a red-carpet affair at Cité du Cinema Paris, a luxury film studio designed by Luc Besson. The Pirelli 2017 calendar is now in its 44th year, having started in 1964.
Unique photographs of the following stars are presented in the calendar: Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlotte Rampling, Lea Seydoux, Uma Thurman, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Robin Wright and Zhang Ziyi.
