Beautiful surroundings, listeners wearing deluxe clothing and a very pleasant atmosphere. This is how the Prague Spring Festival was opened in the unique areas of Obecní dům. It was evident in the main hall that celebrities – the Queen of Pařížská Ulice Tamara Kotvaldová, fashion designer Liběna Rochová and actress Hana Maciuchová were looking forward to the magnificent opening.

On Saturday evening the Czech Philharmonic directed by conductor Tomáš Netopil opened the 73rd international Prague Spring Festival with the classic verse Má Vlast by amazing composer Bedřich Smetana. This music is heard at the festival every year, but is performed by a different conductor. The venue at Obecni dům, where the opening of the festival was held, was completely sold out and full of enthusiastic listeners.

Celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Czech Republic

The theme of this year’s Prague Spring will be commemoration of the one hundredth anniversary since the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic. This theme will apply to the entire the festival, which will end on 3 June with a concert performed by the Slovak Philharmonic with head conductor James Judd.

Violin player Julian Rachlin will be a special guest

This festival of classical music always offers a surprise and will not disappoint this year either. Classical music enthusiasts can look forward to sixty deluxe concerts full of magnificent music, emotions and life and violin player Julian Rachlin will be a special guest.

Classical music has something to offer the young generation

"We lure young listeners with the fact that classical music is interesting, it contrasts with life today, which is very hectic and electronic. This is art, which is produced for instance by a hundred musicians in the orchestra on the podium, which is extremely exciting. This is the opposite to what the young generation is normally surrounded by and this difference is very attractive ," Pavel Trojan the festival press officer revealed. 

A little about the history of the Prague Spring

The deluxe Prague Spring Festival was launched in 1946, which was the first year of the International Festival of Classical Music. World-renowned conductor Rafael Kubelík initiated the creation of this festival and the Czechoslovak President at the time, Dr. Edvárd Beneš, offered his patronage, and a tradition that continues to this day was established.
