The British analyst company Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has recently published a study, according to which Paris is among the 3 most expensive cities in the world - next to Singapore and Hong Kong. Since I live in Paris, I can confirm that it is indeed a city where daily life will cost you more than in other metropolies. Let me show you the specific numbers.

Haurdresser is luxury
Coffee and wine affords everyone
Luxury view costs money

In Paris, you will earn the minimum of 37,000 CZK, the average income being 122,250 CZK/month. What is the cost of living?

Real estate prices: 200,000 CZK/m²

Apartment rental of approx. 40 m²: 32,000 - 38,000 CZK/month

Luxury apartment with Eiffel Tower view: 75,000 CZK/month

Studio on the outskirts of Paris: 25,000 CZK/month.

Shopping for food is 30% more expensive than in the Czech Republic, a visit at the hairdresser is a luxury!

I usually pay 1,500 CZK for 3 days worth of groceries. A lunch at an average restaurant costs 500 - 1,200 CZK per person and a dinner much more; a bottle of wine starts at 750 CZK.

The services of a hairdresser or a masseuse are also much more expensive in Paris:

Massage: 1,800 CZK

Hair Cut: 3,000 CZK

Monthly fitness center fee: 2,750 CZK.

Paris versus other luxury metropolies

In Milan, you can get a haircut for exactly half the price, and you’ll be able to rent a luxury apartment in the city center starting at 25,000 CZK. In London, you will pay 780 CZK per month for fitness center and the average price of real estate is about 120,000 CZK/m². Public transportation in London costs 2,430 CZK per month (it is 1875 CZK in Paris ), 875 CZK in Milan and only 550 CZK in Prague.

You will pay extra for living in Paris, but you can also earn more than anywhere else!

The Parisians are complaining. I, on the other hand, think that this city offers plenty of interesting work opportunities, allowing you to earn around 130,000 CZK/month as a manager. I see things positively and despite the high prices, I would definitely move to Paris again!
