Haute couture for the bold

Fur hats worn with evening dresses and elegant pencil skirts, cone-like models, or eccentric satin parkas lined with fake fox fur. Yes, Jean Paul Gaultier decided to join the fight against fur massacre, replacing real fur with synthetic one. Yet the luxury models from FW19/20 are not for everyone - just like most of the avant-garde fashion created by this French native.

A collection of illusions and volume

From the very beginning, Jean Paul Gaultier's work bears the hallmarks of punk, provocation and avant-garde. The unconventional FW19/20 haute couture models introduced by the designer in Paris are dominated by optical illusions, large volume, angular shapes, wild animal prints and metallic effects.

Luxury Prague Life's favorite: A stylish Parisian

Our favorite model, which we believe every fashion enthusiast should have in their wardrobe, is a snow-white overall with girdle, paired up with chic pumps - this piece will make you look like a real Parisian!

Avoid these models at all costs

Which models would we rather leave to the enemy? Clearly all those that make you look like a cone, including the moss green quilted jacket with a head bow. We are literally creeped out by models like these.

Sexy geisha Christina Aguilera

Singer Christina Aguilera, who hasn't appeared in public in quite some time, arrived at the luxury fashion show in an outfit befitting of a sexy geisha. Singer Amanda Lear and Victoria's Secret angel Sara Sampaio could also be spotted in the front rows.

I see haute couture collections as a showcase of fashion designers' dreams. And that's why my rating will be more like: "This costume for the musical "Cats" is pretty awesome." Or should we keep digging to discover something that could be worn here, on a planet populated by humans?

One of the few almost normal pieces is a white model composed of an overall and a cloak. Sure, the tall, sharp-looking collar is a bit over the top, but I wouldn't mind wearing it. It's eccentric yet elegant and that's exactly what I like! So let's have a coffee in the style of Hollywood actress and scientist Heda Lamarr.

On the other hand, there's a thing that really upsets me: Jean Paul Gaultier may be rescuing animals from the fur industry massacre, but he doesn't mind sending anorexic models on the catwalk, despite the media pressure. I thought that this unfortunate fashion era was already behind us. I feel really sorry for the blonde model in a transparent black dress with pink leggings... She looked like a skeleton.
