Do you love winter sports? Head for the mountains, whether in our country or across the borders. We're bringing you some tips on how to enjoy winter holidays not only in the Czech Republic but also in Slovakia or in the Alps.

Alpine ski centres:

Austria

The Hintertux glacier is opened throughout the whole year. Skiing is also possible at glaciers in Kaunertal, Pitztal and in Sölden. Ski lifts at Dachstein are in full swing and the Stubai or Kitzsteinhorn also have excellent conditions for winter fun whether you with to ski or snowboard. As one of the first non-glacier centres the season was always traditionally opened up by Kitzbühel at Resterkogel, subsequently joined by the other non-glazier centres, such as Hochkar in Lower Austria, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl or Schladming, after which followed Riefensberg in Vorarlberg, Styrian Turracher Höhe, then the ski lifts in Obertauern in Ischgl, Hauser Kaibling or Bad Gastein. One of the last centres to open up for winter season was Silvretta Montafon, Kühtai, Zell am See - Schmittenhöhe, St. Anton Lech Zürs, Seefeld or Damüls.

Italy

Preasure of skiing is offered by Passo Stelvio in Val Senales, in Cervinia - Breuil, at the Presena glacier, at the skiing resort of Adamello Ski as well as Passo Tonale. Then you could also visit Solda in Southern Tyrol, into the Piedmont centre of Artesina - Mondolé ski, to San Martino di Castrozza, to Passo Rolle and Livign. One of the most snow-covered centres in Italy is Limone Piemonte. Don´t hesitate to visit Tre Cime Dolomiti, which is the former centre of Val Pusteria/Hochpustertal that has changed its name. In Fai della Paganella and iconic Marmolada the mountains boast fresh snow. One of the last centres to open were ski resorts in Kronplatz, in Cortina d'Ampezzo, in Aprica, Madesimo, Bormio, Pinzolo, Folgaria, Obereggen, Madonna di Campiglio or Folgarida-Marilleva.

Czech and Slovak mountains:

Czech Republic

Here you can look forward to the opening of the centre Černá hora in Janské Lázně in Krkonoše Mountains, Moninec, where snow is produced in the Snow Factory, acquired by Kopřivná in Jeseníky. Among other Czech centres, which opens among the first ones, with skiing on natural snow, is a small family-run Novako centre on the western border with Germany, in Boží Dar, Branná in Jeseníky, Malá Úpa in Krkonoše Mountains or in Beskydy Mountains, in Bílá. The most famous Czech centre of Špindlerův Mlýn officially held Ski Opening on the second December Saturday, same as in Harrachov.

Slovakia

Chopok ski resort in the Low Tatras is usually the first place where Slovakia traditionally goes skiing. The largest Slovak centre of Jasná is very well equipped by snow producing technology. Also very popular places among Czech skiers are centres in High Tatras, such as Tatranská Lomnica, Štrbské Pleso, Roháče or Bachledka or Strednica in Ždiar. An interesting tip for skiing is also Snowparadise Veľká Rača Oščadnica.
