Marriott has its hotels all over the world. They are known for their luxury and maximum comfort. This includes, of course, first class facilities and the best service in restaurants and bars. Straws are an integral part of this. In the next year, they will be no longer available in Marriott hotels.
The company estimates that this ban will remove a billion plastic straws and a quarter of a billion plastic stirrers a year! Most of the chain's hotels are on the coast, where the leakage of plastic into the sea happens very easily. With this move, the management has decided to help protect the beauty of nature.
Naturally, the problem of plastic pollution is far greater than plastic straws. But the speed at which the straw ban spread from Seattle to India is an encouraging sign that we can achieve consensus and even decisive action on issues that once seemed unsolvable.
We are probably at the beginning of major changes. And it's good that the problem is not just being handled by individuals, but also by such huge brands as the luxurious Marriott hotel chain.
