Barcelona is a favourite coastal Spanish town famous for its stunning architecture, a long beach, narrow streets, stylish and luxurious boutiques. These days all of this will be set aside. Attention is focused on powerful engines, since a race of Formula 1 is to start at the nearby Circuit de Catalonia.
Racing Formula One Championships are held in various locations around the world. 13. May at 15:10 the fast wheels will sound at the Circuit de Catalonia, stretching over 4,655 kilometres. The circuit got its name from its location; you may find it in Monmeló near Barcelona, which is the capital of Catalonia.
The length of the race is 307,104 km (66 circuits). A total of six gold medals were won here by Michael Schumacher, fastest circuit was achieved by Giancarlo Fisichella from Italy from the Renault stables in 2005 with time of 1:15,641 and the fastest race by Fernando Alonso from the same stables with an total time of 1:26:21,759 hours in 2006. Will his luxurious record be surpassed this year?
The track began to be built in 1989 and in 1991 the Spanish Touring Car Championship was held here. From this time there are also held annual Grand Prix Formula 1 races which were moved here from the city of Jerez. The luxurious circuit features a mix of fast and medium-fast turns as well as a long flat stretch. The track is very diverse so it´s been used by Formula 1 teams for testing for long years now. MotoGP is also held on this circuit.
