After last year's successful exhibition in Antwerp, at ModeMuseum (MoMu) the unique exhibition of Martin Margiela finally sees its continuation. This year it was moved to one of the most romantic cities in Europe - Paris. It is here in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs that you can see up to 2. September this unique exhibition.
The Belgian designer, Martin Margiela, served as creative director of the Hermès luxury fashion house in the years 1997 - 2003. At the same time he was also engaged under his own brand name, Maison Martin Margiela. It is these two different worlds of fashion of the talented designer that are the starting points for the exhibition, which will help you to better understand Martin Margiela´s approach.
Interviews are of no interest to him and to see him captured in photos is an exception - this says it all about Martin Margiela´s attitude to media. Nothing so strange you say? Not quite. Anonymity also became one of the essential characteristics of his creation. Instead of conventional labelling with his name he decided to designate the luxurious models of his brand by sewing on a white label with a simple marking. Original? Definitely - like the designer himself!
Master of minimalism, whose favoured colour is white, was engaged by Hermès in 1997. The twelve luxury Hermès collections reflect some of the characteristics of his production to date - recyclable materials, de-constructed cut or oversize style. The designer partially refrained from his minimalist style, creating work for the French fashion house in the spirit of modern Hermès luxury. Musée des Arts Décoratifs presents models that under the baton of Margiela provide women with comfort, sensuality, timelessness as well as authenticity.
If you feel sufficiently enticed by the exhibition, don´t forget to take a note to make a trip in the direction of Paris before 2. 9. 2018!
