The economic policy of the Trump administration will have paradoxical consequences.

The trade war between the USA and Canada is starting. Americans can expect expensive gasoline, followed by the whole world.

New Canadian Prime Minister Marc Carney

The view of US customs policy towards Canada is rapidly changing, but it already has fairly unexpected consequences. In Canada, politicians critical to Donald Trump are now strengthening. Leading them is the new Prime Minister, economist Marc Carney, who is succeeding Justin Trudeau as the leader of the country. A significant part of the US is also dependent on Canadian oil, but it is also supposed to be subject to customs duties, which could affect global gasoline prices. Canadians are already responding with a boycott of American goods, and they are not the only ones.

The new American administration regularly changes its outlook on planned tariffs. Currently, a high 25% tariff on all aluminum and steel imported into the United States has been announced. The USA have also repeatedly come up with tariffs for their closest trading partners in Mexico and Canada, although these were soon suspended.

However, the plans have reflected in trading relations. Canadians, for example, started boycotting typical goods imported from the USA. The symbol of this approach became the removal of American alcohol, led by the world-famous bourbon Jack Daniels, which caused panic among the company's owners, even before any tariffs came into effect. Donald Trump does not hesitate to plunge the USA into recession, which he admitted to the American public. Ironically, he was successful in the election with the vision of ending high inflation.

Trump wants to annex Canada, says new Prime Minister

It is still unclear what mutual tariffs will end up at. Another unexpected consequence of Trump's policy towards the northern neighbour is the shift in voter sentiment. Relations with the USA, repeatedly accompanied by calls for Canada to join as the 51st state under Trump's administration, have become the central topic of voter interest ahead of the upcoming elections.

While in January no one doubted that the Liberal party of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would be replaced by the Conservatives, many Canadians are now looking for a politician who stands up most to Trump's controversial policies. The Liberals unexpectedly jumped 10% in a month-to-month survey and the election result is now very unclear.

In addition, they appointed a new leader who took over the prime minister's chair until the end of the period. Marc Carney, an economic expert and former governor of both the Canadian and British central banks, plans to strengthen trade and security relations with the UK and Europe.

"The latest tariffs by President Trump are an attack on Canadian workers, families and businesses. My government will ensure that our response has maximum impact in the US and minimal impact here in Canada, while supporting affected workers. My government will apply our tariffs as long as the Americans do not show us respect and do not accept credible and reliable commitments to free and fair trade,"

Positioned against Trump on the network X is the new Canadian Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Party Marc Carney. In the statement pinned on the social network, Carney was still holding back.

"He wants the Canadian economy to completely collapse, as this will facilitate our annexation,"

Carney's position on Trump was quoted by BBC.

The Czech Republic also faces rising petrol prices

In addition to the boycott of American goods in Canadian retail, the imposition of a 10% duty on Canadian oil will have a significant impact on the economy of both countries. Up to 60% of fuel in the US comes from oil sands in Canada. The raw material is exclusively refined in the US. It cannot be exported anywhere else as there are no pipelines leading anywhere else, and at the same time, many US states are not connected to American oil pipelines and are dependent on Canadian oil.

The price of gasoline in the US will inevitably rise, which is likely to reflect in global prices and consequently in the increasing price of gasoline at Czech gas stations. The economic policy is also being assessed very negatively by the stock markets, which are experiencing a sharp decline in the case of the US stock market and threaten to trigger a deeper economic recession.

The recent imposition of a blanket 25% tariff on aluminum and steel imports has contributed to this development, to which the EU has already decided to respond with a series of retaliatory measures that will affect key US products exported to Europe.
