The perfect contrast between styles was presented by deluxe Dior in its FW 2018/2019 collection. This consists of fierce elegance suited to a successful businessman and also informal items referring to the teenage years. Men’s elegance is what is appearing at world shows less and less and this is why the collection by Dior is refreshing in a flood of genderless collections, which are increasingly popular among fashion designers.
Men’s suits were always a symbol of masculinity, power and elegance and we are very excited about the items created by Kris Van Assche, creative director at Dior. The well-fitting slim fit- suits are a deluxe affair and we consider both the unicolor and the more extravagant items with patterns or stripes very successful.
Streetwear elements could be seen in the SS 2018 collection, but this time the deluxe brand gave them a completely new appearance. Kris Van Assche created models, which will immediately take you back to your teenage years. Trousers and jeans with high-waists, with a relaxed design, informal t-shirts with slogans, playful layering in the form of knitted vests and t-shirts over shirts, feather jackets or loosely cut suits combined with tennis shoes in the sporting elegance style.
The overall look of the models is emphasised by accessories that have become its inherent components. Slim fit suits are complemented by deluxe leather shoes and cases or elegant bags. Streetwear models are embellished by bags with exotic patterns and loosely tied belts. Accessories also include neck scarves, sunglasses or stylish gaiters and gloves.
And which style is the winner for you? Men’s elegance or relaxed streetwear?
The Dior men’s collection is absolutely certain to show us elegance as it should be. First of all I would like to plead with my husband Josef to carefully examine the suits offered by Dior and then to examine his “main” suit. To describe my husbands favourite suit (it needs a bottle of Pinot Grigio): it is completely loose, practically hanging, and he wears it everywhere! It doesn’t matter whether it's a wedding, a visit to the theatres or a funeral. This is why I call him the funeral director. I’ll probably throw it on the fire one day.
So I really love the black suit with the double row of buttons, the chic design of the trousers (just loose enough) and the white shirt with the subtle buckle. But I would rather buy shoes from Balmain. This model is typical of the permanently sexy agent 007 James Bond. And which of us wouldn’t want someone like that at home, hey?!
But something I don’t like is the oversize high-waisted jeans. Yes, it is wonderful that Dior wants to remove the youths with their start-ups, in their jeans that are so tight it's a wonder that they don’t cut their butt in half, from the streets, but this is too much in the other direction. Next time I would like a happy medium
