It was the first Tyrolean glacier to be opened to the public in 1968 and is also currently the only one where you can even ski in the summer! It has been labelled the best glacial ski resort in the world several times.
You will find the Hintertux Glacier in Tyrol in a picturesque valley which is drained by the River Ziller. The Finkenberg-Tux region is situated at a height of 850-3250 metres above sea level. On the higher downhill runs, you can ski 365 days a year, even in the summer when there are usually 10 draglifts and chairlifts in operation!
During the winter, there are 86 kilometres of downhill runs available, 21 draglifts and chairlifts. A luxurious experience is to be had in the Gletscherbus 3 cable car, which will take you up to a height of 3,250 metres, where the panorama terrace offers you a unique view of the Alps.
Apart from luxury downhill runs, there are also bobsled and toboggan runs here, maintained trails for cross-country skiers and great conditions for free riders. Absolute beginners can learn to ski in Familypark and more advanced skiers can hone their skills in Betterpark. You can also set out on an adventurous trek with a guide onto the glacier offering a total of 250 km of hiking trails. And that still isn’t everything!
A great attraction for all those who visit the glacier is without a doubt Nature's Ice Palace, a luxurious natural ice palace which is located a few minutes from the top station of the Gletscherbus 3 cable car. In all of its winter beauty, it will enchant you with its stalactites, waterfalls, glacial lake and sparkling ice crystals. Tours last either 45 minutes or longer for those of a more adventurous nature.
Isn’t that luxurious? If you love the snow, beautiful countryside and fun, the Hintertux Glacier certainly won’t let you down.
