They are also increasingly using the services of barbershops that specialise in men’s shaving and trimming. Their popularity is growing rapidly, despite prices that can reach up to two thousand crowns.
Already in the past most men tended to take care of themselves, but the idea of a visit to a hairdresser or a beauty salon, where mostly women go, was nothing more than simply taking the wind from their sails. When specialised services appeared in Czechia, though only for men who have the opportunity to drink a glass of luxury whisky, smoke a cigar, and watch a match on TV without the company of a woman, every man has now found his own oasis of peace.
Czech men are also interested in men’s cosmetics not only for hair but also for their beards and they do not hesitate to spend a lot of money. Not only the rich burghers purchase luxurious products and services, but also men who are just interested in being themselves and there are both students and managers there. In accordance with world statistics, the most money for men’s cosmetics - amounting to one billion dollars a year - is spent by men from South Korea.
In addition to Prague, luxurious barbershops also offer razor shaving in Pardubice, Liberec or České Budějovice. Male-focused services in the Czech Republic are increasing and not only in regard to hairdressing and barber services. Often men are also seeking for manicures, pedicures or massages for men.
For men beards are symbolic of expressing their own style, their personality and/or their mood. In recent years the trend for growing a good beard has come to us from America in the form of the Lumbersexual, i.e. a man whose appearance resembles that of a lumberjack. It should be the modern backwoodsman, who has the beard, the flannel shirt and a backpack on his back, but in it he has a Macbook instead of his axe. Some men have fallen for this trend, while others are trimming their beards in a manner that suits them or that is just trendy.
