The American Republican president wants to allocate 30,000 beds in Guantanamo for migrants who are in the United States illegally. He stated that this action would supposedly "immediately double the capacity" for detaining migrants without documents. At the largest religious festival in the world, Mahakumbh Mela, around 40 people were killed in a stampede.

US President Donald Trump announced that he will issue an executive order today to open a detention facility for migrants in the prison at the US base in Guantánamo, Cuba. According to him, the facility will accommodate up to 30,000 people who are in the US illegally. The Republican president said that this step will "immediately double our capacity" for detaining migrants without documents. Trump at the beginning of his second term launched a broad anti-immigration campaign. He issued a series of executive orders and halted many programs that allowed foreigners to come to the US, reported the website Ceskenoviny.cz.

Dozens killed in stampede at Indian religious festival Mahakumbh

About 40 people were killed and many others injured in a crowd stampede at the world's largest religious festival, which took place in northern India. The final number of victims is not yet confirmed. Footage of rescue teams taking victims away from the religious site revealed clothing, shoes, and other discarded items strewn on the ground, reported by Al Jazeera. Mahakumbh Mela, or the Great Festival of the Pitchers, is the biggest milestone in the Hindu religious calendar. It was expected to attract up to 400 million pilgrims.

Japanese city bans smoking in public

Osaka, one of the largest Japanese cities, has banned smoking cigarettes in public. The ban, which came into effect on January 27, includes roads, parks, squares, and other public places. Those who violate the rule will pay a fine of 1,000 yen, roughly around 150 crowns. Current laws in the country ban smoking primarily in restaurants, offices, and public transport. Also, people under the age of 20 are not allowed to smoke and purchase tobacco, warns CNN.
