Sacre Coeur in Prague: made for a luxury wedding
Some history
The church itself stands on the Southern slope of Petřín, in the location of the former villa of the factory owner Ried von Riedenstein. Ladies from the Sacre Coeur order started building a boarding school for girls here in the 1870s and the church was built here subsequently. This building and the nearby Church of the Annunciation in the former St. Gabriel monastery are unique examples of the so-called Beuronese style.
Art style from Southwestern Germany
The style bearing the name of the Beuron Archabbey of St. Martin is heavily inspired by the styles of deep past – buildings from the early stages of Christianity and renaissance. The principles of symmetry, rhythm and harmony are observed in buildings designed in this style. Circle, square and triangle are the dominating geometric shapes.
