The American Air Force dissuaded Russian and Chinese bombers from operating near Alaskan territory

Russian and Chinese bombers were spotted near Alaska. They were likely heading to the Arctic territory. Although they did not violate American and Canadian airspace, it was the first time they jointly appeared near foreign territory. The number of people suffering from chronic hunger has remained virtually unchanged over the past year, according to a UN report. The ambitious goal to eliminate global hunger will probably not be achieved by 2030.

Russian and Chinese bombers jointly operated near Alaska

The United States air defense command detained two Russian and two Chinese bombers near Alaska on Wednesday. According to a U.S. defense representative, this was the first time that both countries were caught in a joint operation. The aircraft did not enter the air sovereignty of either the United States or Canada. The intervention, which deterred the bombers from continuing their flight, was carried out by US F-16 and F-35 fighters and also Canadian CF-18 fighters. Support aircraft were also part of the intervention. The presence of Chinese aircraft in this region is new. China is likely trying to push towards the Arctic region, noted CNN.

The goal of eradicating global hunger by 2030 is unlikely to be met

The goal of eradicating global hunger by 2030 seems ever more unattainable. The number of people suffering from chronic hunger has hardly changed over the last year, according to a UN report. The annual report on the state of food security and nutrition in the world states that last year about 733 million people faced hunger, that is, one in 11 people worldwide and every fifth person in Africa. The reasons are mainly conflicts, climate change, and economic crises. International aid related to food security and nutrition amounted to 76 billion dollars annually, or 0.07 percent of the total global annual economic output, wrote the Al Jazeera television server.

France reports increased risk of disruption to the Olympic Games

France has been on the highest alert in recent weeks in connection with preparations for hosting the Olympic Games. The Paris prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday that it had arrested a 40-year-old Russian suspected of planning to "disrupt the Olympic Games". The man was accused of "conducting espionage on the orders of a foreign power" with the aim of "provoking hostile actions in France". The penalty for similar crimes in the country is up to 30 years, reported the agency AP.

According to experts, a new drug has appeared for protection against AIDS

Scientists have tested injections used for AIDS treatment, which according to the results of the study were almost 100 percent effective. Of the young women and girls who received these injections in South Africa and Uganda, only about 2 percent of them eventually contracted the HIV virus, the agency AP reported.

The manufacturer of these drugs, called Sunlenca, is Gilead. The drugs are approved in the USA, Canada, Europe and some other regions. The company said, however, that it is still waiting for the results of tests in men before it will ask for permission for it to be used for full protection against infection.
