The paintings he brought from LA could be admired as part of the Arboretum exhibition at the Kobka 17 Gallery. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic and new government measures, he is unlucky just like any other artist. However, MAXIM solved the problem in his own way. He will make the common exhibition a more personal connection between an individual and art. Following the newly introduced government measures, he will invite to the studio a maximum of six people only, always for predetermined times.
"Due to the current government measures, I am moving the exhibition from the KOBKA 17 Gallery to my studio in Prague's Vnitroblock and it will be without vernissage. You can enjoy a more personal approach and a more intimate atmosphere in the form of an open door studio. The new collection of Arboretum paintings will be on view in my studio in Holešovice from Monday 19 October to Sunday 8 November,"
writes the artist on his social media. Which doesn’t mean it’s wrong. On the contrary.
“It will be more personal. I’ll be inviting people directly to my studio and I will guide them through my exhibition in person. It's actually better for me too, so I can understand what the client is looking for. It will be certainly more interesting,"

Arboretum is full of beauties of nature
The Arboretum collection is very different from MAXIM's previous work. It is light, more colourful, cheerful, full of life. In a general sense, an arboretum is a botanical collection composed exclusively of trees. The modern arboretum is a botanical garden containing living collections of woody plants and is intended at least partially for scientific study.

MAXIM had the idea of creating a series of nature-inspired paintings from the very beginning. He always found the nature around him to be an endless source of inspiration. It is a place of all creation, existence, beauty and wonder.
"At the time when the world around us is facing irreversible damage, we have to do more than ever to save at least what we have left of our planet. Despite all the technological advances of the last decade in space travel, the Earth is and will be our only home for a long time, and therefore it is our primary responsibility to protect and preserve it. As far as we know, it's the only place in our known universe that carries life, "
He explains.

"As an artist, I can't afford not having an exhibition, I have to sell, like everyone else, it's my livelihood,"
he confided that he and his family extended his stay in the Czech Republic until 17 November.
From the rainforests to the Japanese gardens in Kyoto
Maxim's new series of paintings called Arboretum is a specially packaged collection of works on paper of more intimate formats than what we are used to. Each of them is inspired by a selected natural habitat that the artist visited on his travels around the world. So far, the lifelong pilgrimage has led him through European forests, North and Central America, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, traditional Japanese gardens in Kyoto, the South Pacific to the Cook Islands, and the winter wilderness beyond the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Every place he has visited on his journey left him with such a deep impression that it completely changed his view of the world and its inhabitants.

The concrete prison of LA
The collection was created in the first half of 2020 in Los Angeles, when the world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. As part of measures against the disease, the California metropolis has closed all parks, beaches and forests to the public. For a few months, LA turned into a concrete prison without access to nature.
"I have always needed nature to live. The trees give me inner peace. When I don't have access to them, it's like I'm slowly suffocating. "
says MAXIM.
A collection full of life
With the pandemic came global restrictions on travelling and discovering of new places.
"One then becomes more aware of the importance of diversity and constant contact with nature and new perceptions. Discovering new places on Earth is educating me and the impossibility of travelling feels like reading a book and suddenly someone takes it from you and won't let you finish it. During many days in quarantine, one recapitulates and evaluates. And although 2020 is very raw, painful and simply uncomfortable, it forces us to wake up from our unconscious sleep and change something. I became even more aware of how we take our loved ones, fresh air in our lungs, nature and virtually unlimited possibilities for granted. ”
