Masaryk as a Phenomenon Exhibition reveals the Truth about our “Daddy”
This luxurious exhibition was created on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the death of T. G. Masaryk, the original founder of Czechoslovakia. Until the end of January 2018 visitors can become acquainted with our most sophisticated president as an educated personality, one who was loved, but who was also a condemned individual.
T. G. M. is a phenomenal entity of Czech history. The exhibition is not meant to support many times repeated constant epithet of the “Father Liberator”, but to show the first Czechoslovak president in a different light: as a person with solid moral principles and extraordinary thoughts. Like an ordinary man with an extraordinary spirit.
Masaryk seen primarily as being a Human
Masaryk was not an untouchable figure, as it may often seem. He was a father, a husband, a man who stood behind his opinions that were often very progressive. Already at the time of the First Republic he promoted women’s rights, which would have been completely unthinkable in many other countries. Much about Masaryk is not even known by the general public: for example, he did not like to talk to the public. It is precisely these hidden truths that the luxurious Masaryk’s Phenomenon exhibition seeks to unveil.
T. G. Masaryk’s Unique Objects
Masaryk lived a very rich life. This is evidenced by many of the objects that are exhibited: books, photographs and videos. In addition, his correspondence, his business suit and his eagle pen, with which Masaryk signed the Declaration of the Common Interests of Independent Central European Nations in 1918 in Philadelphia, are exhibited there.
The aim of this unique exhibition, in addition to commemorating, is to introduce to the new generation the ideas and thoughts of a historical personality who succeeded in outrunning his time. T. G. Masaryk’s ideas are important and even essential for maintaining moral values in today’s world.
