Mario Colonel is considered to be one of the best photographers of mountains. He has already published 15 books about mountains and has also won several international awards. One of them, for example, is the prize for the most beautiful pictorial book, which he won in Bannf, Canada, where the biggest festival of books on the theme of mountains in the world was held. He became the first European to obtain such a prize.
Mario Colonel is also the author of over 500 articles, which have been published worldwide. For over 25 years he worked for France’s Montagnes Magazine and Alpi Rando Magazine as a photojournalist and published 12 books in French, 3 in Italian and 1 in German. He also participated in expeditions to the Himalayas, to Patagonia and to the Canadian mountains.
The gallery in Chamonix was opened in 2007 and was devoted to the work of the photographer Mario Colonel. There, based on his photographic skill, you will find posters, framed prints, original photographs, postcards, calendars, books and other similar products. There is also an exhibition space for the numbered and signed original prints that are produced in a maximum number of 30 copies. Most of these are black-and-white.
You will find in the gallery a large collection of luxurious photographs from Mont Blanc and also from other parts of the Alpine area. Soon the collection will be expanded to additionally include the photographs of the Himalayas.
In addition to this recognised photographer’s luxurious photographs you can also admire in the gallery the works of sculptor Paolo Alberteli, who started exhibiting there in 2010. The combination of the raw materials and the clean lines of his unique sculptures produces remarkable results.
The original luxurious black and white prints provide significant proof that there is room for them because they are still in demand despite the fact that they are not cheap. With Mario Colonel’s photographs it is like with love at first sight: you simply have to have them at any cost.
