Luxury churches which are worth seeing
One of the few churches with a minimalist design is located in Belgium and is known as the Doorkijkkerk. This building with a modern design was built by the architect Gijs Van Vaerenbergh in the Borgloon region. It is not clear at first glance what makes the church stand out. It only reveals its beauty if you look at it from a certain angle. The structure of the church all of a sudden becomes transparent and unique. The building is made of 100 layers of sheet metal which are arranged in such a way that each change in perspective allows your fantasy to run wild. A luxurious optical illusion, don’t you think?

This modern church is located on the picturesque west coast of Norway, north of Bergen. It is built in a wonderful location with a view over the countryside and the local town centre. It is set in an unusual manner into a rocky slope. The shape of the church signalises its function with a sacral dignity, where the church spire, sanctuary and chapel are emphasised by ascending roof planes. Its characteristic, innovative nature is also inspired by the local tradition of Norwegian stave churches. The main building material here is wood. The building utilises clear and elemental geometry, materials and constructions. The interior is characterised by a design in harmony with nature.
A modern gem in Tenerife
Allow yourself to be carried away by a timeless concept which blends in with the urban landscape. Characteristic for this church is a large chunk of concrete broken into four different parts which are irregularly separated. Light seeps into the interior through precisely these cracks. The gaps between the stones can transform into “terraces” with daylight and ventilation. The build has a very stern expression which is not impaired by any superfluous elements which could distract you from the spiritual essence and evoke many emotions. The architect Fernando Menis managed to combine a highly formal, material and spatial quality in a valuable work of art.
“Environmentally-friendly” church in Rome
The Jubilee Church on the eastern outskirts of Rome is one of the modern, yet also one of the most unusual churches of all. It characterised by its boat shape dominated by three white sails. The church was built using special concrete with Carrara marble and particles of titanium oxide added. The effects of light on this are supposed to prevent any pollutants settling on the building, thus ensuring that the walls remain white and at the same time decreasing the concentration of pollutants in the air.
