The Louis Vuitton Foundation constitutes a Museum of Modern Art that was first opened to the public in 2014. It was created out of the desire to promote both contemporary art and culture. This luxurious building is located in the heart of Old Paris – i.e. in the Bois de Boulogne. The water surface and the mature trees surrounding it form the luxury backdrop to this exceptional glass building, which was designed by the architect Frank Gehry. In addition to his other works, he is also the architect who collaborated in the designing of the Dancing House in Prague.

Luxurious Architecture: Steel and Glass

The building has a total area of 3,500 square metres and comprises a steel structure. The columns of the structure are targetted in different directions and the intermediate area is filled with glass. Thereby the museum resembles a floating glass cloud. The luxurious premises provide enough space for 11 galleries, an auditorium with a capacity of 1,000 visitors and also a restaurant. Also included are 3 outdoor terraces, which offer luxurious views of Paris to the visiting guests.

A Luxurious Exhibition of Modern Art

Since 2006 Suzanne Pagé has been the artistic director of this new cultural gallery space, who, amongst others, was also for a long time the Director of the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. The basic axis of all the exhibitions is the collection of artworks by such famous artists as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jeff Koons and Andreas Gursky.

The Current Exhibition: The Icons of Modern Art

Currently you can admire there an exhibition entitled The Icons of Modern Art that pays tribute to one of the greatest patrons of the arts of the 21st Century, Sergei Shchukin, who is a visionary Russian collector of Modern French Art.

Thanks to the participation of the Hermitage Museum and the Pushkin Museum, both of which contributed generously to the conception of this project, the exhibition features 130 artworks of Impressionists, Post-Impressionists and other Masters of Modern Art of worldwide importance from Sergei Shchukin’s Collection. Amongst the artists you will see such names as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Paul Gauguin, Edgar Degas, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and many others. The exhibition will run until the 20th February.

An Auditorium filled with Music

In addition to art exhibitions, visitors can also appreciate culture in the forms of the music and dance that take place in the auditorium. During 2017 a large number of famous virtuosos will be performing there and the entire space will be imbued with the luxurious tones of the piano. The Auditorium’s programme also includes dance combined with interesting choreography.
