Lego arranged its luxurious debut at the aforementioned electronics trade fair in Las Vegas. The Boost brand stands for building blocks that contain electronics. In addition to programmable motors, it will also include sensors and a gyroscope. The building set was designed for children from the age of seven and is based on the popular Lego System series. Lego Boost has given itself the task of creative learning and above all elementary programming.
The first product bearing the Lego Boost brand is called Creative Toolbox and it contains 840 blocks and 3 special Boost blocks with built-in electronics. The first block called Move Hub has an on/off button, coloured lights and a six-axis gyroscope. Two other parts of the kit contain a distance sensor and a motor, with returns speed and direction data, as well as a colour identification module. There are enclosed instructions to build five models: Vernie the robot, Frankie the cat, Guitar 4000, Multi-Tool Rover 4 (M.T.R.4) and Autobuilder. The brain of the entire kit is an iOS/Android application used to program the robots.
The control element is an application for tablets, which first teaches children how to work with the individual modules, how to give them commands and create their own programs. Everything is based on simple commands. Later, they can add conditions, interactions in the form of input from sensors, and the option of connection a microphone and speakers to the tablet. Gradually, children can work their way to understanding the functions of individual sensors and electronic modules, and start combining them into their own creations.
