It is no accident that “Isabella” appears in the name of the new concept. It is the most famous model of the former German automobile company. However, the super-modern luxury car on display in Frankfurt was not directly inspired by the legendary old model. On the contrary – the new Borgward is looking forward to the future!
In designing the car, emphasis was placed on the greatest possible aerodynamics, the ideal streaming of air around the body. Forget about classic door opening, and essentially forget about everything you’ve been used to until now. The design of the car itself is a luxurious vision of the future. And you haven’t seen its stellar interior yet!
You won’t find any conventional features here either. The dashboard is replaced with a free-standing “surf board” complemented by the triangular console of the control panel. Touch controls, a holographic display that shows data in 3D, a steering wheel with no controls, luxury seats inspired by modern furniture: what do you think? You probably won’t see this luxury concept on the roads in this version, but some of the elements might find their way into standard production soon.
Two electric motors provide a combined output of 220 kW and 450 N.m. torque. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 and its maximum speed is 250 km/h. The battery was developed in cooperation with LG and allows for a range of 500 kilometres. It recharges to 80% of its capacity in half an hour.
In its time, the Borgward brand was one of the largest car manufacturers in Europe. It was founded in Germany by Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Borgward in 1928. It manufactured 4 brands of cars: Borgward, Goliah, Hansa and Lloyd.
It was always a pioneer in technology and introducing novelties on the German market. Nevertheless, it was unable to compete with the low prices of brands like Volkswagen and Opel, and was forced into liquidation in 1961. Production was moved to Mexico.
However, in 2005 the grandson of the famous founder, current president of Borgward AG Christian Borgward, appeared on the scene to recover the legendary brand. We have just revealed what the result of this rebirth has been.
