The unique Gucci Garden exhibition in the historic area of the Pallazo della Mercanzia in Florence is slowly but surely growing. Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele , has added three new areas to the existing Guccification, Paraphernalia, Cosmorama, De Rerum, Natura and Ephemera areas.
The exhibition reveals the deluxe dress that Alessandro Michele designed especially for Björk to wear in her clip titled The Gate, which is part of the singer’s last album called Utopia from last year. The unique sparkling dress, made from lurex, organza, PVC and crêpe de chine silk fabric, took approximately 550 hours to make. The complicated embroidery took another 320 hours to complete.
As well as the divine dress, the exhibition also reveals extravagant shoes or the work of James Merry – the man who is behind Björk’s eccentric masks.
The creative director also gave Isabelle Cotier, a young artist from London, the opportunity to break through into the world of deluxe fashion. This ethereal brunette created unique street style items, which reflected the street scene. This collaboration resulted in a collection of deluxe sweatshirts, t-shirts, dressing gowns, bags and moccasins.
The drawings of eccentric figures that appear on Gucci’s items are based on personal observation. Isabella Cotier drew her inspiration from the streets and places that have a distinctive ambiance – the coffee shops in Santo Spiritu, a famous Florentine quarter or the Sant Ambrogio market.
The collection originated in cooperation with the young designer and is available from the boutique that is also part of the Gucci Garden.
