269 leading galleries from a total of 31 countries in North and Central America, Europe, Asia and Africa will be presenting their most important works of art in the luxury premises of the Miami Beach Convention Centre.
This is an event without parallel in the world and represents a unique opportunity to best familiarise yourself with contemporary modern art under one roof. Art Basel also takes place in Basel (June 2017) and Hong Kong (March 2017). Works by brand new artists unknown to the public will also be on display here, in Miami. The works of art include paintings, statues, installations, photographs and films by a total of more than 4,000 artists.
The luxury space at Art Basel is divided into several sectors. Apart from galleries, this for example means the Nova sector where works which have never been seen before are displayed. The Public sector is a very interesting one, presenting works in an external setting. As ambitious large works are also included in this art festival, they serve as decoration for the surrounding areas, specifically being displayed in Collins Park and SoundScape Park.
This is a private area for VIP clients. The luxury brands which sponsor Art Basel have their own space here where they can present their latest collaboration with artists via their products. The exhibition by the luxury wine brand Ruinart will certainly be worth paying attention to, the presentation being made via beautiful black and white photographs taken for Ruinart by Erwin Olaf.
From all of the participating galleries, we have chosen the Swiss Gmurzynska gallery which is exhibiting some of the most famous works of art in the world here. Apart from this, the gallery has also established cooperation with leading fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld. This year, visitors can look forward to an exhibition of Russian avant-garde art which will be presented in a setting designed by Claude Picasso.
This year, the Art Basel Miami film curator Marian Masone has chosen the film Maurizio Cattelan: Be Right Back which came out this year and which was directed by Maura Axelrod. This is an original and entertaining portrait of the famous Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan which will be screened on 2 December in the luxury premises of the Colony Theatre.
