This year, the British fashion designer Clare Waight Keller started to work as a Creative Director for the Givenchy luxury brand. After a long and successful twelve years she thereby replaced the Italian designer Riccardo Tisci and presented a truly exciting debut.
The collection comprises luxurious daytime and evening cocktail dresses with asymmetrical trims and shorts and trousers and skirts made to measure. Also present are tops, coats and jackets with expanded shoulders with a touch of the 1980’s. There are no extravagant combinations, but rather a simple style with just a touch of luxury.
Many of the items are adorned with flower, tiger, leopard or zebra patterns. Especially lovers of playful stripes will also get their money’s worth. Playfulness with a luxurious touch of the 1980’s, this is how you could characterise the S/S 2018 collection.
Under Claire Waight Keller’s lead Givenchy achieves a completely new dimension. The items are both feminine and gentle and in addition to dark colours that are inspired mostly by the night sky, they also feature elegant white, passionate red, stylish navy blue or cobalt blue colours. So now the day also becomes an inspiration too. The materials used are luxurious and delicate. Lace, silk, chiffon, crepe and leather all come into focus.
Handbags around the waist and small clutch bags. Minimum accessories or their total absence. Emphasis is placed primarily on clothing while accessories play a secondary role. Only simple earrings or very modest unpretentious necklaces in dark shades are visible. The clothing is accompanied by striking leather cowboy boots or shoes with a metal tip or elegant pumps.
