Exhibition at Prague Castle: Labyrinth Through the History of Bohemian Lands, until 1 July 2018
The exhibit can be seen at the luxurious representative premises of the Imperial Riding Hall at Prague Castle. It was officially opened a day earlier, on 26 February 2018, in a ceremony headed by the Minister of Interior Lubomír Metnar.
“This year, we must remember that the Czechoslovak nation was not founded on a green field in 1918, but followed up on more than one thousand years of tradition. Today, having been a member of the European Union for over ten years and a respected member of the international community, we must continuously remind ourselves of our past as a nation and the historical connections in which our country stood out,” Lubomír Metnar told the invited guests during the opening.
An exhibition that proudly presents Bohemian history. A past we should not forget.
The exhibition is retrospective. The first references concern modern history, and gradually go back in time to the very beginning of our nation. Everything is adapted to pull the visitor into the “realistic action” of the past. It is a multimedia exhibition, which means you can sit in a retro armchair or watch television news from the Communist era, peruse period documents from 1939 or listen to a recording of the entries from the luxurious diary of the famous Melanie von Metternich on headphones.
What’s more, the exposition is accompanied by authentic audio recording and images projected onto the walls. You can also find out how people used to write in past times. It is sure to be fun!
What else won’t leave you cold
You will see the draft declaration of independence written by Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Who wouldn’t want to see the shirt Franz Ferdinand d’Este was wearing during his assassination in 1914, which is entirely intact? Or the telegraph from Reinhard Heydrich, in which he described the first measures in Prague to be implemented in Prague after his ascension to the office of Protector of the Reich? Luxurious treasures like hundred-year-old documents, such as the request from executioner Jan Mydlář, the funeral insignia of Přemysl Otakar II or the original volumes of the Prague, Brno, Olomouc and Opava land registries. Likewise, the splendid original Golden Bull of Sicily is definitely worth seeing and praising.
