Alessandro Sartori uses art in fashion, giving the clothing a different dimension. When last year Zegna returned into society he showed what is in him and what he has to offer men´s fashion. You can expect elegance and luxurious, pleasant materials.
Looking at the SS 2018 collection, the designer let himself be inspired by the beautiful Italian city of Milan, with which he has very close ties. The show was held in a beautiful futuristic garden, whose lawns were of granular sand with tangerine-coloured pigments. They made an almost hallucinogenic impression making the guest almost dizzy.
The luxurious collection is centered on being lightweight and airy so that breeze can just pass through the material. In particular clothes constituting only of black mesh. As for this men´s collection, we can therefore see sophistication, because the light and airy material has also revealed a bit of skin. And for men this is quite a brave step.
The collection is nevertheless very exceptional, luxurious, elegant and also sporty. Bomber jackets, lightweight trousers, sweaters and other garments in delicate colours such as white, brown, beige and pale pink look subtle, fresh and light. Some pieces are decorated with natural motifs that look like twigs, creating unique style on the clothes.
We like that the collection includes strong colours too, such as red which is in now. The luxurious elegant jacket will accentuate every male personality. Moreover it will lend gentlemen some flair, which is what most of them now covet. The combination with black is elegant and interesting. What will you prefer? Will you try to reach for the red or you will stick to natural and subtle colours?
Ermenegildo Zegna has in my opinion kind of unobtrusive collections in general. I cannot see any characteristic signs as is the case with other brands, and so to me it seems that it is on the whole unimaginative. This specific collection is designed around the city of Milan. It seems to me more like that it has been designed around the film "Pretty Woman" (1990). The loose jackets, V-necked oversized jerseys and infinity of subdued colours of that time! Uggh...
Take for example that sporty black jumpsuit with a giant kangaroo pocket on the belly. That is simply back to the 1980´s and I am bored with this constant copying of the past ideas. Moreover, what kind of man would look good in that?
The only thing that seems wearable to me is the white jacket, white pants and white casual top with the fine beige pattern. It is ideal for sitting on a summer terrace with views of Prague Castle with a chic pair of sunglasses on!
