The Federal Republic of Germany has reintroduced border controls with the Czech Republic. Due to the poor development of the epidemic situation in the Czech Republic, permanent border controls were resumed at midnight on the border with Germany. Germany considers the Czech Republic an area affected by coronavirus mutations. The newly introduced measure further complicates travel and restricts transit through Germany. The only exceptions are transport services or humanitarian routes. It is still true that transport service staff must provide a negative test.

Joe Biden reminds of the fragility of democracy

US President Joe Biden spoke about the exemption of his predecessor Donald Trump, who had been accused of inciting rebellion, but was eventually acquitted by the Senate. Biden noted that 57 senators (including seven Republicans) had voted to convict Trump. At the same time, he reminded the public that Donald Trump was morally and practically responsible for the violence that had broken out in the Capitol in January.
"This sad chapter in our history has reminded us that democracy is fragile. That it must always be defended. That we must be ever vigilant. That violence and extremism has no place in America, "

More than 121 injured after the earthquake in Japan

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Japan. At least 121 wounded have been reported in the Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures. The tremors shook the buildings and caused power outages in hundreds of thousands of buildings. Moreover, many households were left without water. According to the national television NHK, however, there were no deaths or tsunami warnings. Saturday's quake evokes memories of March 11, 2011, when an earthquake had hit the same area, followed by a tsunami. In 2011, more than 20,000 people had lost their lives and the quake had cauased the worst nuclear disaster since the Chernobyl accident. At the Fukushima nuclear power plant, three reactors had melted and the leaked radiation contaminated the area.
New cases of infection in New Zealand

New Zealand has been winning the fight against the coronavirus for many months. Now, the country has reported three new cases of COVID-19, for the first time since the end of January. Secretary Chris Hipkins said the infected people were a couple with a daughter living in Auckland.
"Our system has swung into action. We are gathering all of the facts as quickly as we can. And the system that’s served us so well in the past is really gearing up to do so again,”
Chris Hipkins said at a press conference. Authorities are still working to determine whether this case is associated with highly infectious strains of COVID-19. At the same time, they are trying to find out how the family caught the virus, so that they can prevent further transmission. The country is on the 1st level in the fight against the pandemic, which means there are no restrictions. For now, they are not planning to change that.

Amazon files a lawsuit

Amazon has filed a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James over an investigation into COVID-19 security measures in the workplace. The investigation was launched last spring, following protests staged by workers at Amazon's warehouses. Amazon claims that it maintains safety in the workplace and that adequate measures have been put in place in response to the global pandemics. James issud a statement that the employees had been forced to work in dangerous conditions while the company was making billions.
"This action by Amazon is nothing more than a sad attempt to distract from the facts and shirk accountability for its failures to protect hardworking employees from a deadly virus,"
said Attorney General Letitia James.
