Since the start of its existence, the designers at the Christian Dior fashion house have emphasises femininity and female contours. Over time, however, the original focus on noble ladies was replaced with a new wave of energy, which we can see in the new Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
The brand’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri proved once again that women can be great artists, and her new Spring/Summer 2018 is indeed a celebration of female creativity. What does the new season in her luxurious interpretation offer?
Maria Grazia Chiuri is not afraid to experiment and the new models are youthful, wild and luxuriously chic. The new collection is dominated by delicate skirts over snug leotards. There is classic denim and trousers with pleats paired with shirts, and even short dresses with knee-high socks as a throwback to the Sixties. The black-and-white checkered pattern also celebrates this wild and inspiring era.
The luxurious models are complemented with boyish caps and classic black hats.
You can discover a fresh contract is original combinations of romantic skirts and leather jackets. This casually elegant motorcycle style is apparent in black leather dresses and shiny overalls. But the sparkle doesn’t end there. There is a luxurious range of garments that will astound you with thousands of tiny pieces of glass in assorted colour combinations, which looks like something from a magical world.
The key motifs, in addition to checkers and polka dots, include a dragon, spider and heart, which embellish both sweaters and dresses.
Blue work clothes from fabrics similar to denim had already been worn by Italian sailors in the 17th century. Today they are sported by construction workers in the vicinity of the Prague Žižkov. And similar pieces, only their luxurious versions that is, were now showcased by Christian Dior at the Paris opening of Fashion Week. After years it was a pleasant surprise for me, as well as a bit of a shock to see the practical models, which, as you know, are not seen too frequently on the Fashion Week catwalks. Finally something that a woman can put on without having to be embarrassed to leave the house! So cheers, bell-bottoms are not yet quite pasé!
As for myself, in this collection I fell in love with a sexy little black dress accessorised by a beret with mesh. The model “Lolita” as I nicknamed it for myself would be suitable both for negotiations with a sexy business associate, as well as a quick smoothie with a friend on Thursday at midnight at Bar and Books. However, I could happily relinquish the jerseys in the style of "I am a rock fan of Spider Man comics" part of the show. And what would you choose?
