Only few fashion houses retain the hallmark of elegance in almost all collections as Dior does. The latest haute couture collection for 2018/2019 AW is in the spirit of sophistication in combination with playful sophistication. In addition to chic elegance, the brand included in its collection models radiating energy, femininity and maximum sensuality.
The most extravagant models of the luxury Haute Couture collection include evening nude-coloured gowns, where Dior placed a bet on transparency. Although the ruched skirts cover what is necessary, in the area of the décolletage there is not much left to the imagination, reveal almost all.
An absolute contrast here were luxury models with berets, in which every lady on the catwalk looked genuinely French. Truthfully? We would perhaps find it difficult to imagine the luxurious Dior brand without them or the flirty face nets.
See-through gowns and chic models were complemented by metallic pieces with pleated skirts, lace or embroidery. The classic colours, such as nude, black, navy, gave way to shades of gold, silver, pink, blue-green, red and olive-green. And which of these pieces charmed our editors? A dark-blue metallic dress with spaghetti straps, a deep neckline and pleated skirt and a powder-pink gown with a skirt embellished by feathers, which, whether we wish to or not, evokes designs of Elie Saab. Intention or coincidence?
The creative director introduced into the luxury collection a breath of fresh air, but, while maintaining the necessary dose of elegance, is however at the same time not afraid to break in with a little more daring pieces. A great step for which we applaud Maria Chiuri Georgia, and we believe that the next time she will shift the boundary once again a little bit further!
Classic Dior, as we have known it for decades, is here again; in the most vibrant of spotlights. There are only a few fashion shows that could travel through time and still be in. I know the story of one very old wealthy New York lady, who still treasures her Coco Chanel suit. She still wears it and it is very much in, of course, and that is one of the advantages of a CLASSIC piece! The same goes for Dior Haute Couture AW 18:
Strangely enough, this time round, the evening gowns did nothing for me, from the whole show they seemed really to be the most boring. Moreover, this year, similar pieces could be seen in other fashion houses, too. At first glance I was charmed by the sapphire-blue blue dress, suits and coats. The greatest hit is definitely the dark blue jacket with tassels. Wide loose sleeves, a concealed belt accessorised by the powder-pink beret with a mesh...amazing! Perfect for autumn city walks, grand style.
Another of my favourites is a grey-white suit belted on the left side of the waist. There are surprisingly capri trousers, more suitable for ladies with longer legs. For a giraffe, six feet tall like myself, this model is ideal. Moreover I love how multifunctional it is: something that one can wear to normal business meetings as well as for example a christening do. What is lacking? A smoking cigarette in a 30´s-style holder. Ouuu comme le français typique!
