The Dior brand revealed the new collection Cruise 2019 on May 25th in the premises of the French Chantilly Chateau. It includes 82 luxurious looks inspired by Escaramuza riders. These women broke established traditions of the Charreada in the 50s, a Spanish sport similar to rodeo, and rode on horseback exclusively in skirts, bright colors and hats.
The fact that the entire collection will probably be in the spirit of Escaramuza was foreshadowed at the beginning of the show. It was opened by women on horses in white dresses with a blue trim, embroidery and sombreros on their heads. These then stopped in the middle of the space to make way for the models that began to display Dior's luxury designs. The show took place in the rain, while the guests were naturally spared the wetness.
The luxurious collection is dominated by maxi skirts and dresses of imaginative designs and colors. The designs breathe sex appeal and femininity combined with strength and elegance. Most of the collection is made up of ankle-length models, but there are also some rebel mini ones.
Tulle in combination with cotton or wool? A maxi poncho together with mini shorts? A dress with...it doesn't really matter. Mix styles and materials and don't be afraid to combine. Maxi dresses with skirts are a sure choice and save you time when it comes to matching, but Cruise 2019 also includes several other pieces, the combination of which can help you create the outfit of the season!
And what is the must have item of our editorial staff? A luxurious dress with black lace in the chest and shoulder area, a distinctive skirt with animal and nature motifs, and a leather belt with golden applications. Dior gets 10 points out of 10 for this!
The Creative Director of the Christian Dior fashion house (and the first woman in this position), Maria Grazia Chiuri, was inspired by Mexican cowgirls who participate in the traditional rodeo - charreria - when creating the new Cruise 2019 collection. The Escaramuza style is otherwise actually a tribute to "Las Adelitas" women soldiers who fought in the 1910 revolution. For me as a feminist-minded woman, this is a big gesture.
Intricate embroidery, cotton lace and sombreros almost concealing the eyes perfectly mirror the traditional Mexican dress of "escaramuzas charras" and I really enjoy that. Tradition mixed with a pinch of modern trend. For example, the outfit where we see the creamy coat with a distinctive pattern, a fluffy giant tulle skirt, a gold necklace and a black sombrero decorated with white lace. Lord, that's an outfit that even (sometimes a little fashion-crazy) Carrie from "Sex in the City" would be proud of. Not even in those episodes in the middle of Paris. I can already picture the coffee in the famous Bar Le 47 on the Champs-Élysées.
But if you are going to have a romantic picnic somewhere on the outskirts of Prague, I would definitely opt for the cute lace mini dresse with a rebellious leather belt at the waist. Innocence wrapped in gentle provocation. I say YES!
