Among the most important events belongs the trade fair of top-quality furniture and fittings, Salone del Mobile, but also design festivals, Milano Moda Design, dedicated to fashion houses or a set of events, Fuorisalone, involving representatives from different sectors, from art to fashion or technology.
The 57. edition of furniture trade fair, Salone del Mobile, is annually visited by over 300 thousand visitors from more than 160 countries. The exhibitions concentrate on the fairgrounds Fiera Milano near the city centre where they spread on an area of approximately 200,000 m2. This year too, the space has been occupied by more than 2,000 designers from around the world.
The exhibition Salone de Mobile consists of various presentations split into several pavilions. Each of the parts, ´salons´, then takes up the space of several of these. The most important is the Salon International Furnishing Accessories covering a wide range of products of interior equipment, from furniture to decorative objects or fabrics.
This year the rest of the grounds have been divided between the salon presenting trade fair EuroCucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition. The last salon is SaloneSatellite, focusing on young designers.
The exhibitors at the international trade fair Salone de Mobile also include a fair number of exhibitors from the Czech Republic. A presentation is made here for example by the domestic Preciosa with its installation The Breath of Light, which has decided to breathe a new life into the design of historic light fittings. A completely new collection of glass works of art, accompanied a maximalist glass installation, Independent, by Maxim Velčovský, presented by a Czech firm, Lasvit.
Events in honour of the Design Week are ongoing also in the city outside the exhibition grounds. The centre of the action in among the streets is the Milanese Cathedral of the Birth of the Virgin Mary and the adjacent square, which prepared a special installation, Living Nature, which points out the relationship between nature and urban life.
The residential district of Brera also focuses on design, as well as Isola, Lambrate and Zona Tortona districts, where there is a separate Tortona Design Week. In the former industrial halls it is possible to visit exhibitions of other brands and studios.
Fuorisalone 2018 will be held on the same dates as the Salone del Mobile, i.e. from 17. to 22. April. The festival is not administered any institution, having begun spontaneously in the 1980's; however, it is one of the engines of the Milanese week of design which determines the overall atmosphere of the given year.
Under its name exhibits are made by designers from many sectors; from the car industry to telecommunications or fashion. Fuorisalone in the meantime works as a communication platform, offering a system of support for all exhibitors.
A significant event here are the exhibitions House in Motion, organised by the Italian magazine, Interni. The exhibition takes place in several places in the city and brings together a number of experimental and interactive installations of architecture and design. The organisers meanwhile cooperate with highly esteemed world designers, but notable juniors, too.
The festival, thanks to which representatives of fashion brands may comment their collections or fashion events associated with the world of design, was held from 16. to 18. April. The rich calendar of events was traditionally supported by the above-stated official festivals, Salone del Mobile and Fuori Salone.
The festival is organised by the Italian National Chamber of Fashion, which provides through a proactive international communication campaign a chance to all fashion brands that move in the environment of design.
