Three cases of coronavirus infection occured in the Czech Republic on Sunday. They are two men and one woman, all of whom are currently isolated at the Hospital Na Bulovce in Prague. Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch informed about the first cases of the infection.
Given that the Covid-19 infection appeared near the Czech border a few days ago, it was more or less only a matter of time before coronavirus reached the Czech Republic. As many as three people were infected, two Czechs and one American.
The man (born in 1952) had attended a conference at the University of Udine, Italy. The other man (born in 1976) returned from a ski holiday in Italy, specifically in Auronzo di Cadore, Veneto. The third infected person is a woman from the USA (born in 1999) who is currently studying in Milan. Minister of Health did not provide more detailed information.
Two of the cases occurred in Prague, one in Ústí nad Labem. The man from Ústí was consequently quickly transferred to Bulovka in Prague, where they are well prepared for the contagion. More measures are currently being implemented, the most important being the search for other people who have been in contact with the infected.
Coronavirus has been spreading very rapidly in recent weeks, with a total of over 86,000 cases worldwide in more than 50 countries. So far almost 3,000 people have died, the majority being the elderly and the sick. In case of young people, deaths have been rather rare at this point.
Since coronavirus infection has a long incubation period, the number of patients in the Czech Republic is likely to increase. But the government is not about to close the border at the moment.
