Burj Khalifa is, with its height of 828 metres, the tallest skyscraper in the world. You can find it in Dubai, in the place where there is constantly something being built. The higher the better! And so it is not surprising that Burj Khalifa will not keep its title forever. Soon it will be taken over by the new record holder, the Creek Tower!
This name may not be the final one. Just as Burj Khalifa was called Burj Dubai before its opening, the Creek Tower may only be a temporary name. The construction of the tower was notified in 2016 and did not have any name at that time. The developer described it as the "tower in Dubai, Creek Harbour" and this has also been stated on the cornerstone of the building.
In the vicinity of the construction there will also grow a whole new district. It is estimated that it will be double the size of Downtown Dubai, which covers the area of 6 km2. The centre of the project will obviously be the Creek Tower.
The developer is the company Emaar, which has not yet announced the exact height of the Dubai Creek Tower. It is to be announced officially at its opening. The intention is to prevent the tower to be surpassed by certain competing projects. But it is certain that it will be higher than Burj Khalifa. Originally there was a talk of extra 100 metres, which means that it could reach 928 meters.
However, in 2017 there were speculations that could reach the overall height of up to 1,300 metres! In this case it could be recognized as the tallest building in the world.
In any case, here you will find here several observational platforms offering a 360° view of Dubai and its giant gardens. Its 20 floors will be occupied by hotels and restaurants, as well as private apartments. The antenna will be used for broadcasting.
The design was proposed by Spanish-Swedish architect, Santiago Calatrava Valls, who has already designed many buildings around the world.
This time round, he was inspired by the shape of lilies which may be found in desert regions. The ribbed lily leaves are represented by sturdy cables at the foot of the construction, connecting the tower with anchors, which spread on the ground on two sides of the tower, which makes the building more stable and secure. In addition, the shape of the tower is reminiscent of a minaret, a typical structure of Islamic architecture.
The cost of the construction is estimated at USD 1 billion.
