It would not be Karl Lagerfeld if he did not prepare something exclusive for the introduction of this autumn / winter collection. The luxurious Paris exhibition pavilion, Grand Palais, was transformed on his orders into a dark forest with bare trees, with the ground covered by damp autumn leaves and moss. The Chanel fashion house with its fantastic show will go down in history because there has never been anything like it!
The whole show started by the models in black. You will fall in love with the luxury long jackets straight away, because when you put it on you will find out that they create a perfect silhouette. Forget tying anything around your waist and look forward to the beautiful buttons which lend the jackets a stylish, slightly military tone. Some of the models are embellished by sequins, which create an effect of snowflakes. The most interesting pieces include long overcoats decorated by shiny feathers.
When the models appeared on the scene, dressed in classic tweed Chanel style, we had to admit that to us it was a bit boring. Although we like this style and cut, the colours were a touch too subdued, rather natural. Brown, beige, grey, burgundy and the other colours on the palette are more suited to older elegant ladies. Contrariwise, during autumn months, younger women would welcome bolder tones that would lend their outfit a bit of zing.
Such as the set with a dark green shorter jacket accompanied by gloves and sheeny pants of A-style silhouette. What flair! Therefore the tweed was in the end pushed to the background by pieces with unique detailing such as those reminiscent of sparkling leaves. The shorter coats and jackets were inventive and chic. A bit of spark was added in particular by the combination of various colours and styles.
Most of us this time round was entertained by the end of the show, thanks to the lavish, luxurious style of the short, hairy, fur jackets that had in themselves unbelievable spark and in combination with the dresses looked simple heavenly. This will clearly become a MUST HAVE piece of FW18. Our enthusiasm continued even when elegant gowns came onto the scene, the pride of the fashion house. They were dominated by original cuts and striking embellishments.
Karl Lagerfeld once again demonstrated that he will probably not have a break, not for a single day in his life. How else would you explain that he again introduced a new Chanel collection? In my opinion, not that the collection wasn´t a success, but at the same time I felt a kind of creative fatigue from which Karl and his team are probably suffering.
Essentially, many models just drew inspiration from the 80´s collections. Ruched shoulders, metallic maxi skirts with monstrous pockets and one million tweed jackets. I like the coats because of their perfect cut, but there is nothing new to which I would have to applaud. And yes, I know that Chanel is basically about being a classic, which must in a way keep its "tweediness".
However, what I am pleased by is the fact that the next winter season, the giant scarves wrapped around the neck will still be in! I am a staunch fan of comfort and above all, warmth, so I certainly make use of these fashionable pieces in Prague city centre squelches! Then I noted a simple lace cocktail dress, worn by the next supermodel to be, Kaia Gerber. In combination with the pink pull-ons on the forearms, one stud and one long earring it is the TOP stuff of all! The ideal thing for the plethora of Christmas parties that will be ahead of us. Quite off-putting to read about it in March though, isn´t it?
