We could see the parallel between outfits by Olivier Rousteing and Michael Jackson in the past, whether this concerned models full of glittering glamour or the deluxe fitted suit jackets and rocker jackets, which accompanied the singer in his private and professional life. But this time Balmain has gone even further!
One of Michael Jackson’s most typical fashion legacies, the legendary white socks in deluxe black moccasins, has now appeared on the runway! The Balmain brand presented these in combination with casual denim items, leather slim outfits and black tie trousers for example.
SS19 can generally be considered a collection of never-before-seen combinations and a successful return to the past. Olivier Rousteing has emphasised the best of his work to date and spiced up the familiar with a pinch of something new and unique. He complemented tops and trousers with sequins, stylish jackets, biker jackets, denim, metallic and leather items, with fresh navy items with a trace of summer.
As well as black-and white variations, the collection was dominated by the three navy colours – white, blue and red. Oliver Rousteing embellished some models with horizontal and vertical stripes, others with geometric images, logos or anchor motifs.
The guests arriving at this deluxe show, which included professional basketball player Serge Ibaka or instagram beauty and lifestyle blogger Xenia Adonts, armed themselves with models from the preceding collection.
Olivier Rousteing himself appeared on the runway at the end of the show in one of his outfits from the newest collection SS19 – a clinging red and white knitted sweater, which is just right for cool evenings on deck or on the veranda.
Even if this concerns a sort of “discotheque” collection in the spirit of Michael Jackson. You may find a ton of sequins in it as well as various studs (serving no purpose), but nevertheless even a narrow-minded hetero will be able to choose something from this collection.
One of the more classic models, which could actually be worn in the light of day without causing a furore, is certainly from the “sailor” section. The classic blue Balmain sweater with red stripes, the dark blue jeans with the folded legs, the shiny black moccasins, the white socks and the distinctive striped jacket with the embroidered coat of arms at the end: and an ingenious men’s version of “smart casual” to wear into town is born!
However, I also found some complete duds here and there in the collection. One of these is certainly the sweatshirt, the quilting of which is reminiscent of a circus jacket for wearing into the arena. You certainly don’t want to arrive somewhere wearing this. Nearly everyone who has been to the circus will remember that flunkey in the arena who pick up after the animals – wearing something like this. So I say NEVER EVER!
